NIGÜELAS
Nigüelas is the highest village in the Lecrin Valley, which extends from the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains practically to the coast. Filled with olive and citrus orchards the valley offers the rich atmosphere of an authentic oasis.

The watershed of the western end of the Sierra Nevada mountains feeds the streams and a complex system of irrigation channels that have kept the area green and lush since Moorish times.

At 900 m (3000 ft.) altitude above sea level we enjoy a priviledged climate. Summers are hot and dry with cooling breezes that come up the valley from the Mediterrannean sea. In winter, the southern exposure makes La Solanilla a sheltered and sunny spot to enjoy the outdoors.

The surrounding area offers spectacular countryside rich in fauna and flora. The small-scale intensive - typically Mediterrannean agriculture enhances the natural beauty of the area.

The picturesque villages invite long walks, hiking and cycling and Nigüelas is a natural starting point for a number of interesting day trips. Granada, full of art and history is only 20 min. away by car. The Alhambra palace, the Royal Chapel, the Cartuja, the historic quarter of the Albaicin, museums and many cultural events are only a few of the attractions Granada offers its visitors. The beach and the Alpujarran mountain villages are only a 30 min. drive from Nigüelas, and Sierra Nevada offers excellent skiing in winter.
